Hazeldenes is seeking an experienced and motivated 2nd Shift Mechanic – 2IC (Second-in-Charge) Job In Japan to support the smooth operation of our vehicle and equipment maintenance function. This leadership-focused role is ideal for a hands-on mechanic who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys mentoring others, and is committed to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Working on second shift, you will support the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in overseeing maintenance activities, ensuring equipment uptime, and maintaining Hazeldenes’ high operational and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Second-in-Charge (2IC) for the 2nd shift Vehicle Maintenance team
  • Support and lead maintenance activities for a diverse fleet of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment
  • Perform and oversee scheduled servicing, inspections, and repairs to ensure reliability and safety
  • Assist with fault diagnosis and rectification across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, engine, and transmission systems
  • Work on European, Japanese, and American driveline trucks, forklifts, generators, and earthmoving equipment
  • Provide guidance and support to apprentices and junior mechanics
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety procedures and Hazeldenes’ Zero Harm commitment
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and compliance documentation
  • Coordinate shift priorities to ensure minimal operational downtime
  • Maintain workshop cleanliness, tooling, and spare parts availability
  • Adhere to biosecurity, GMP, and quality standards at all times
  • Support after-hours or weekend work when required to meet operational needs

Requirements

  • Trade qualification in Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  • Previous experience in diesel or heavy vehicle maintenance
  • Ability to work 2nd shift and flexible hours as required
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety and compliance requirements
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, operational environment
  • Physically capable of performing hands-on mechanical tasks
  • Valid driver’s license (heavy vehicle license highly regarded)
