Lead Carpenter Job in New Zealand

We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Carpenter Job in New Zealand to join our team. This role is ideal for a skilled craftsman who takes pride in their work, values attention to detail, and is looking for steady work and a long-term professional relationship. Unlike production builders, we tailor every project to each customer’s unique needs.

Key Responsibilities

Carpentry & Construction

  • Lead the construction of custom outdoor structures including decks, pergolas, screened porches, open porches, and sunrooms
  • Perform advanced carpentry work such as framing, roof structures, stair systems, window and door installation
  • Build and install wood and composite decking systems to high quality standards

Project Leadership & Planning

  • Read and interpret building plans and blueprints accurately
  • Create and verify material take-offs for projects
  • Lead job sites, manage workflow, and ensure project timelines are met

Safety & Site Management

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site at all times
  • Follow all OSHA safety standards and company procedures
  • Perform ladder work and roof framing as required

Quality & Customer Focus

  • Ensure workmanship meets Archadeck’s design, quality, and safety standards
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management
  • Take pride in delivering a professional finish on every project

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction and/or project leadership (for crew lead roles)
  • Proven experience in custom carpentry, outdoor structures, or residential construction
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects on site
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Ownership of basic carpentry tools
  • Ability to travel as required to job sites

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of carpentry principles, wood properties, and building materials
  • Experience with decks, porches, pergolas, and three-season rooms
  • Familiarity with composite decking systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong organisational, time-management, and leadership skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and punctuality
  • Creative problem-solving skills
